Understanding the science
What Is the Tomatis Method?
The Tomatis® Method—developed by French ear, nose, and throat specialist Dr. Alfred Tomatis—is an auditory education and listening program focused on how individuals experience and respond to sound. In this context, listening refers to how sound is perceived and integrated by the individual, influencing attention, orientation, and emotional experience. Because the fetal auditory system develops early in pregnancy, sound is often understood as one of fundamental sensory experiences through which parents may explore bonding and connection before birth.
Filtered Music
Carefully structured sound patterns, including higher-frequency elements, designed to engage attention and sensory awareness during listening sessions.
Sensory Awareness & Development

Understanding the Tomatis Approach
For mama and baby
Why Explore the Tomatis® Method During Pregnancy?
This experience is designed to support the mother’s listening, awareness, and emotional steadiness, while also offering a reflective space to explore connection with baby. Many parents find that when they feel calmer and more present, their experience of pregnancy shifts toward greater ease and connection. Mothers also report that it has boosted their energy when fatigued.
A Calmer Experience, A More Supported Pregnancy
While experiences vary, mothers report noticing:
- A greater sense of calm and emotional balance
- Increased presence and body awareness
- Reduced perceived tension or stress
- A stronger subjective sense of connection with their baby
These experiences are personal and not intended to predict or influence medical outcomes.
The five pillars
How It Supports Pregnant Mothers
and Their Babies
Early Auditory Bonding
Fetuses typically begin responding to sound during the second trimester. Parents often explore the Tomatis® Method as a way to become more intentional about sound, voice, and presence during this stage of pregnancy with the aim to impact early development.
The Mother's Voice as Medicine
Dr. Tomatis described the mother’s voice as “the first emotional language,” as an early emotional reference point. The program emphasizes listening experiences that many parents perceive as comforting, familiar, and connective.
Emotional Regulation for the Mother
Many participants report feeling more grounded, rested, energized and emotionally supported while engaging in the program. These experiences are subjective and vary from person to person.
